Healthy Living: Refined Grains Vs. Whole Grains

Posted by Beast Fit Nation on Saturday, July 21, 2012
Many now know that processed foods are not the way to go in a healthy lifestyle, and have made slight transitions from “bad” to “good” food like going from white bread to wheat bread. What many don’t realize is that unless the label says “100% Whole Grain” then many times the first ingredient is “enriched white flour”. As it stands, refined grains and whole grains have a marginal difference in nutritional value, but the more cycles of “refining” that the product goes through, the more fiber is removed and the hypoglycemic index of the food is increased– causing blood sugar levels to rise. Really, it is in a persons best interest to minimize any intake of refined grains, and cut down on all types of wheat, as delicious as it tastes. If you need to, there are four brands you should look for Arnold, Martin’s, Pepperidge Farm, and Nature’s Pride– which offers the best nutrition and each pack only about 50 calories per slice, which is great! Knowledge is power, have a good weekend.
