Salt… and workouts?!?

Some might have noticed that after a particularly salty meal before a training session, the pump after the workout would be noticeably bigger and last longer. With a lack of salt, there is a significant decrease in athletic performance, there is no debating that. The truth about salts, despite the fears you might have from an excess, is that humans need dietary salt to live, and there is really no means that your body will store excess salt for later use. Salt is absolutely necessary to the body, and governs countless reactions and functions throughout the body. Why does excess salt cause such a noticeably bigger pump? Without getting too technical, the sodium helps contact the muscle in a more efficient way. Now too much salt can be dangerous and even fatal, but if you understand your body some extra salt will not only make your food taste good.. but make you look good too.
